The lyrics to Fracture were part of an untitled poem I had also written while the fires were going. It's actually kind of frightening that this song talks about a smothering mist of smoke that settles itself on cars, since California is on fire again and my friend told me that she was covered in ash just by walking from her house to her car.

I wrote the first half of this song while tinkering with polymeters and it wound up sounding pretty sick so I kept going with it. I showed it to Brian and eventually we had a finished product. It took us forever to find the name Fracture - we used to just call it Toolish because it was inspired by Tool - but on the way to record it at the studio Jacob suggested that the name should have something to do with fracking and it instantly clicked in all of us.
